Quilt

Our medium and our message.

On this website lives a growing, diverse, online collection of quilted art and craft. All display a focus on preserving our American democracy, our Constitutional values, and our place in the world — in response to the current Administration in Washington, DC. We hope this site will be a touchstone for the artists, quilters, and viewers, creating a sense of community and hope, and inspiring advocacy and engagement.

In the spirit of democracy, we accept and display images of quilts and quilted items with NO size requirements. Here, you can contribute—and admire–art quilts, modern quilts, traditional quilts, postcards to legislators, tote bags, purses, and wearable art. We welcome 2-D and 3-D work, too: sculpture, vessels, stuffed dolls or toys, and mixed media art that includes quilting.

Why quilts? What could be better than using the medium of coverings for the bed — our environment of birth, sleep or sleeplessness, dreams, cuddling and intimacy, sickness and recovery, dying and death?

Art in the medium of quilting can be soft, nurturing, non-threatening, warm and welcoming, persuasive. It can uplift, rally, galvanize, mobilize. It can also resist, protest, satirize, parody, lampoon. It can be gentle or bold, personal or public, therapeutic or galvanizing for change.
