When I made the quilted version of my re-imagined Black Lives Matter flag, I thought about how quilts were a significant means of communication for slaves seeking freedom on the Underground Railroad. Quilt making has also been an important dimension of African American art, which is especially clear with the quilts made by the women of Gee’s Bend. I wanted to participate in as well as remember that history through making a quilted version of my Black Lives Matter flag.

Will you be able to publish your pattern so we can make them for our African American friends???

I was hoping to find a BLM quilt project that I could help participate in, something similar to the AIDS QUILT, with the names and images of all those killed by police – does anyone know of something like this?
