With the current President demanding blind loyalty, the independence of the judiciary — both the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, plus all the lower Federal Courts, is in jeopardy. Justice and democracy are hanging by a thread. Since 1973, Roe v. Wade–the only Supreme Court case that everybody knows by name — has saved the hearts, minds, and lives of countless women in America. Now Roe is hanging by a thread. States like mine are voting to defund Planned Parenthood and erode women’s right to choose and deny them faccess to the full range of health care options. Our President is nominating anti-choice judges to lifetime seats on the federal bench, who aim to chip away at, and ultimately decimate Roe. And today, the Senate released their “American Health Care Act,” crafted by an all-male team with no knowledge of medicine, psychology, or the needs and wishes of the 98-percenters. This plan, as “mean” as that released by the House, would prevent poor women from any insurance assistance in exercising self-determination in family planning and health care. Resistance for our sisters. Resistance to protect privacy, preserve justice, and prevent legislators and judges from subjugating women and from tying the hands of doctors who wish to provide safe, appropriate, quality health care.
